Detection dogs, or "sniffer dogs", are extensively used by Police and Customs Officials for the detection of drugs and explosives. You will often see dogs working in airports with their handler checking passengers for any illegal items that they may have in their possession. So it makes sense to use dogs for the detection of live termites in buildings.
